The Workshop

We all know that staying on top of recent web trends, tools, and best practices isn't easy. The Modern Web Dev workshop will explore a number of resources that will help you get up to speed with some of the most exciting new developments in CSS pre-processors and HTML frameworks. If you're interested in front-end development, whether you're just getting into the field or simply haven't had the time to keep up with the latest and greatest, you'll leave with a good understanding of a few different ways to build sites quickly, efficiently, and intelligently. We'll discuss prototyping and developing a site with Bootstrap and a faster, more intuitive way of writing CSS with Sass. Everything we'll cover is free/open source, smart, forward-thinking, and made by developers for themselves and their peers—built as solutions to specific problems.

The one requirement is a good working knowledge of HTML/CSS.

We'll explore:

This workshop is for:

  • web development students
  • new designers/developers aiming to build their skills
  • experienced coders who haven't kept up with the latest front-end goodies
  • tech-savvy entrepreneurs eager to build a live prototype

Brian Middleton

Front-end Developer, Planet Argon

Brian has been working on the web and pushing pixels for the last 10 years or so. He started work as a traditional print designer at an advertising agency in Little Rock, Arkansas. When the internet started to happen, he quickly became enamored and took his career on a different path.

When he is not banging out code, you may find Brian catching up on current and classic movies. Or, he may be biking around town to one of the fine vegan food establishments. Or, he may just be downtown playing a mean game of Burgertime at Ground Kontrol.

Located in Portland, Oregon, Planet Argon designs and develops web-based products for desktop and mobile platforms. For more information, please get in touch.
